Pioneer Square

The original heart of the city in Seattle’s early days, this historic neighborhood features stately brick buildings and culinary highlights.

Quality Athletics welcomes guests to the sports district with crowd-pleasing dishes ranging from hearty burgers and pork belly ramen to vegan tofu and cashew stir-fry noodles. House-made pasta stars at Il Corvo, while Biscuit Bitch brings a piece of the South to downtown Seattle. Casco Antiguo offers a chic brick-walled vibe, tasty Mexican fare, and more than a half-dozen margarita variations; Copal is a happy hour favorite for tacos, grilled corn, roasted peppers, and boozy slushies (Mondays through Fridays, from 3pm to 6pm), while Girin’s authentic yet contemporary Korean cuisine—think kimchi stew and ssam plates—earned it a James Beard semifinalist nod in 2016.

Combine brunch with gift-buying at the airy London Plane Flower Shop, or check out Flora + Henri’s curated collection of children’s clothes and toys and bespoke household goods. At Clementines, spruce up your closet with items representing both rising local designers and internationally sought-after brands. Bon Voyage Vintage stocks women’s, men’s, and children’s clothes from all decades, as well as vinyl, local crafts, and retro housewares.

Longtime home of the Pioneer Art Walk and now also the destination for the annual Upstream Music Fest + Summit in June, this neighborhood has a cultural scene that’s ever-evolving. Catch live tunes at the Central Saloon or J&M Café, part of the scene since 1889, or tee up for indoor mini golf at Flatstick Pub. Soak in more local history on the Bill Speidel’s Underground Tour or by settling into the speakeasy-style bar at the top of iconic Smith Tower. Find the perfect nightcap in the form of a craft cocktail at lofty Good Bar or Damn the Weather, an especially cozy gastropub no matter the forecast.

Don’t be daunted by construction along First Avenue—the brick buildings and native heritage of one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods are still welcoming visitors.
