A Slice of Heaven

You can find delicious pizza in all kinds of Seattle restaurants, from buzzy bistros with celebrity chefs to laid-back neighborhood joints with affordable slices to go. These eight parlors run the gamut from serving wood-fired, blistered-crust Neapolitan pizzas to gluten-free and vegan pies.

Kōbo at Redhook Brewlab

James Beard–nominated, Seattle-born chef Shota Nakajima, of Iron Chef fame, opened this spot in Redhook Brewlab that serves crusty, Detroit-style pies influenced by his time working in restaurants in Osaka, Japan. The faintly sweet dough uses mochiko flour.

TRY the Hot Neighbor, with fried chicken from Nakajima’s neighboring restaurant, Taku, along with koji hot sauce, Jack cheese, and cilantro.

Pi Vegan Pizzeria

5301 Roosevelt Way NE; pizzapivegan.com

This cheerfully simple place near University of Washington campus has deep wooden booths and is said to be America’s oldest vegan pizza restaurant.

TRY the vegan Buffalo Chick’n, with white garlic sauce and ranch dressing.

Razzi’s Pizzeria

1314 Howell St; razzispizza.com

“Savor without the sacrifice” is the motto of this casual parlor known for gluten-free and vegan pizzas but also serving a huge array of options for meat lovers or fans of traditional crusts. Open late, it’s close to downtown hotels and Capitol Hill nightlife.

TRY the gluten-free W.O.W. with garlic, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, pesto, and mozzarella.

Windy City Pie

For authentic Chicago-style deep-dish, head to this Phinney Ridge purveyor that turns out hefty, sweet-crust pizzas with browned-cheese edges.

TRY the Sweet Pete, with red sauce, mozzarella, pineapple, house sausage, candied bacon, and hot giardiniera (pickled vegetables).

Serious Pie

Local mushrooms and veggies and artisan charcuterie and cheeses grace beautiful pies baked in a 600-degree wood-fired oven at this warmly lighted Belltown restaurant from restaurateur Tom Douglas.

TRY the pie with crimini and oyster mushrooms, and truffle cheese.

Ballard Pizza Co

Exposed brick walls, wooden benches, and timber rafters impart a casually cool look to this New York–inspired neighborhood spot that’s part of the acclaimed Ethan Stowell Restaurants group.

TRY the Carbonara, with mozzarella, garlic oil, egg, garlic confit, and speck.

Antique chandeliers and marble cafe tables create a romantic “date night” vibe at this Fremont bistro that doles out Neapolitan-style pies with delicious toppings.

TRY the Burrata Soppressata, with tomato, basil, hot honey, and Calabrian chiles.

Pizza connoisseurs sometimes order weeks ahead for the chance to try one of the inventive, rectangular deep-dish pies sold by this takeout-only shop in West Seattle with a few picnic tables. Save room for the soft-serve ice cream.

TRY the Crab pie with a blend of cheeses, lemon, thyme, dill, and local Dungeness crab.
